The Other Face of John Ankerberg

Most people only know John as host and moderator of the ministry television show.  But, I want to share with you the “real” John Ankerberg…the evangelist and preacher.

Sunday night, July 31, John spoke at Shadow Mountain Community Church (Pastor Dr. David Jeremiah) as part of their Summer Bible Conference.  The people were wonderful and enjoyed hearing John’s heart.

You see John got into apologetics (giving an answer for your faith) by holding evangelistic meetings while on staff with Youth For Christ in Chicago.  He spoke on college campuses to every type of group imaginable.  He always spoke on salvation and promised the group that if they would listen to him first he would stay as long as they wanted to answer their questions.  Keep in mind most of these meetings didn’t even start until late in the evening when the students returned for the night.  When John was given a question that stumped him he simply told them “I don’t know the answer to that but will be back tomorrow night with the answer. “ He then nailed his professors at seminary for the answers.  (By the way, many of those professors are still guests on The John Ankerberg Show today.)  John’s philosophy has always been that you don’t have to “check your brains at the door” to be a Christian.

Later on John held evangelistic crusades in major cities of Africa, Asia, South America and the Islands of the Caribbean.

I’ve travelled with John for many years and had the privilege of seeing him share his faith with the taxi driver, the bellman, the waitress, the maid.  He does this as easily as breathing.  It just comes natural for him.

So, I am thankful for those who know this part of John.  By the way, there are videos of John speaking at Promise Keepers and a few other places available at our website.  I hope you will take the time to get to know this side of John, too.  He really is a good preacher.

Old Friends and New Friends

Each morning I pick up the ministry mail at the post office.  And, each morning I take the time to flip through the mail and stop to thank our Lord for your individual gift to the ministry.  When I see a name I recognize I thank Him for your continued partnership with us. Your gifts allow us to continue presenting and defending the Gospel each week.

When I see a name I don’t recognize I thank Him that a new partner has stepped up to help us in the fight.  I am thankful that your life has been touched, your faith strengthened, and your soul challenged to stand for the Lord and His truth.

So, my friends, I get a wonderful blessing each and every morning because I get to lift you up in prayer, thanking my Lord for you, and asking His blessing on your life.

Thank you for your faithfulness to Him and your love for us.

Sincerely,

Alan L. Weathers

Where would YOU go?

Picture this. You are 18 years old having grown up in a Muslim family, in a Muslim community, in a Muslim country. One day the thought crosses your mind, “What if Mohammed isn’t all I was told he was? What if parts of this just aren’t true?”  Who would you turn to for help? Where would you go for information?  Keep in mind that just asking those questions could actually cost you your life!

In America we are blessed to be able to ask our questions, voice our opinions, seek out truth (at least today we still are).  We don’t have to fear punishment and persecution just because we want to know more.

For 31 years Dr. Ankerberg has sought to ask the tough questions, to pin down smooth talking spokesmen who lead people astray, and to prove that the Word of God will stand on its own in any arena.  So, “where would you go?”  You would go to www.JAShow.org.

I recommend that every missionary you know should be told about www.JAShow.org.  The ammunition and encouragement they need to spread the Gospel in today’s world is right there.  No one is trained in all areas of apologetics, but, our featured guests have spent their lives studying in one area or another and are ready, willing, and able to help.

www.JAShow.org really is “Real Answers for Real Questions.”

In His service,

Alan

Pray Before You Pay

I am sure you heard that the secular news has once again lumped ALL television ministries into one category, extravagant money hungry dishonest deceivers of the public. I am proud to say that when it comes to The John Ankerberg Show that judgment could not be farther from the truth!

The John Ankerberg Show has been on television for the past 31 years.  Since the beginning Dr. Ankerberg sought out television stations and networks that would give Christ’s message the most exposure for the amount of money.  (Many people still think today that Christian television is FREE.  This is false.  These outlets have operating expenses just like any other business.)

Our ministry has ten full-time personnel and some part-time employees.  With that small staff, by God’s grace, Dr. Ankerberg produces and broadcasts our weekly half-hour program 52 weeks out of the year.  The ministry does NOT have a private plane.  Nor does anyone on staff live in a mansion or drive a limousine!  Recently Good Morning America announced they were “going on location” for an interview and that it took 50 staff to make this happen.  With the Lord’s help The John Ankerberg Show does this type interview using only THREE staff.  We strive to use God’s money in the most economical way possible, and He has blessed us for it.

Dr. Ankerberg is an active member of the Board of Directors of the National Religious Broadcasters Association.  In order to be a member of NRB every ministry must be a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA).  ECFA is an accreditation agency dedicated to helping Christian ministries earn the public’s trust through adherence to Seven Standards of Responsible StewardshipTM. Founded in 1979, ECFA provides accreditation to leading Christian nonprofit organizations that faithfully demonstrate compliance with established standards for financial accountability, fundraising and board governance. Members include Christian ministries, denominations, churches, educational institutions and other tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organizations.

Had the secular news dug a little deeper in their investigation they would have found that the ministries they chose to highlight do NOT belong to ECFA.  Instead the media simply passed judgment on every television ministry as a whole.  Personally, I think the public deserves better reporting than that.

This newscast came during our current fund-raising campaign.  But, let me take this time to point out a difference for your consideration.  While the ministries in question offered “blessing” based on your giving The John Ankerberg Show offers materials to assist you in your walk with the Lord and in your ability to spread the Gospel to those who do not know Him.  Every series gives the platform to a qualified spokesman for the Lord in some area of apologetics (giving a defense for the Gospel).

Friends, if we, as believers in Jesus Christ, would ASK ministries about their financial standing and practices BEFORE we donated to them the secular media would not even have a story to chase.  Actually, we should ask the Lord what He would have us do about a particular need rather than to giving His money in response to a promise of “health, wealth and prosperity.”  God has entrusted us with His resources.  We must be good stewards of all He has given to us.  As we use His funds wisely, His kingdom is advanced, and He receives the glory! Please. Pray before you pay.

Spread the Word

I was very encouraged today to receive a letter from a local visitation pastor in California. He has been following the ministry for the past year and has been blessed by the materials we offer. The encouragement came when he asked if we had promotional materials we could send him to give away during visitations. He wants to introduce others to the ministry of The John Ankerberg Show!

Introducing others to our ministry is a very effective means of helping us. You can do the same thing! Send people to our website, www.jashow.org, where they will find a tremendous amount of free materials to assist them in the Christian walk or in evangelism. Our broadcast schedule is also there. Maybe we are available in their local area.

The internet has opened up so many opportunities to minister all around the world. Tell your church missionaries to go to our website for encouragement, insightful articles and video that will help them on their field of service.

Thank you for your prayers for us. Know that we pray for you.

I have just finished reading a little booklet by Mr. Ankerburg called “The Facts on the Masonic Lodge.” Can you tell me whether the Oddfellows organization is in the tradition of the Masons and holds the same heretical beliefs (i.e., a denial of the deity and sacrificial atonement of Jesus, the belief that all humans are “brothers and sisters” under a universal God in which all religiions are “essentially the same”)?

i just recently watched some of john’s videos on youtube… first of all.. if you’re going to criticize science make sure you have some of your facts straight… no modern scientist is trying to say that life on earth came from some other planet or universe among the multi-verse (from m-theory).. and no scientist is saying that roughly 14 billion years was not enough time for evolution to occur on earth.. they are simply stipulating that there are over 500 planets detected thus far with earth like atmospheres… I.E. we may be able to breathe on them… and some of these may have water which means that other means of intelligent life are entirely possible in other galaxies in OUR universe…. pretty much everything that I saw on the show that was said about m-theory was a joke… do some real research and get a real physicist on the show that is from any form of theology but yours and see what they say.. i mean no injustice to anyone but this program truly offended me and made me feel as though it was trying to pass off lies with manipulation of language. . . .

  5. John Sheldon says:

The story of the Fall of Man is directly tied to the story of Jesus cursing the Fig Tree. I would suggest that Christ was the Lord-God-Walking in the Garden of Eden, so Jesus cursed the fig tree because he was having a flashback to the day when he saw His fig tree (the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil) denuded of figs when He had given Adam and Eve all of the other fig trees in the Garden of Eden from which to pluck and eat the fruit thereof. The fact that they did not respect God’s private property was the reason why the entire universe fell under the curse. Socialism is an ideology that only a thuggee and mugger could love — what’s mine is mine and what’s yours is mine, so hand it over! This is the fallacy of communism, fascism, and every other ism that preys upon onther people’s wealth — Other Peoples’ Money = OPM, which spelled TAX. The confiscated goods of others is called pelf, rhymes with self, and is the expression of supreme greed and selfish- ness. The Bible teaches that the fall of man was his temptation to be needlessly greedy and selfish. I would like you to do an in-depth Bible study on this theme and present your findings. It would be a very, very interesting Bible study.

The Kingdom of GOD is INSIDE Life. Within all Life are immeasiurable Kingdoms of cellular encased sub-micro Universes wherein all the children of GOD dwell and live forever or until the Life-form they harbor within does cease in the digestion rituals and is dead. Science has shown to us that incelled within every cellular structure are super small machines that must have operators inside such machines. The Kingdoms of GOD are branches upon the Earth’s Geneology Tree of Life.
