from my years in growing in relationship with God and attending church, i say disciplship has been left out. discipling is a huge needed and necessary part of growing in the Lord. we can read the Lord, Jesus, discipled the 12 apostles and they continued the discipling.
it has continued over the years; yet, not at a growth rate that should have well exceeded 95% (actually 100%) of each churches congregation.
hearing the message given on sundays and extending bible studies has not been sufficient and that was not to take the place of discipleship.
discipleship brings you into a deeper knowing and understanding of why you follow Jesus. you see the “one” lost and to go into the world and speak the Good News and disciple, not keep learning and keep the Good News to yourself but give understanding and teaching to others of whom the One and Only True God is and the Only Begotten Son Jesus Christ is. to get out of the pew seat and activate all that God has imput into you and become the laborer for the Harvest for it is ripe.
discipleship is a solid foundation and knowing of who you are in Christ and that it is HE who is greater within you than anything of this world, go testify of HIM and stand firm in the One who has set you free from bondage.

the follower of Jesus should be able to listen to others who are in false religions, cults, etc. and not be drawn into the same deception but speak God’s Truth to them, continue being the friend; yet, not be swayed into their deceit. we have seen so many who begin to sway in junior high and then by college they have left what has been spoken to them in sunday school, church. i can not say learned because i do not think most of people attending are learning they are attending church but the personal growth i do not see as being established in Jesus.

other cults and false religions disciple, etc. the ones that are under them and they are commitmented to follow a deceit.

the christian at any age should be and can be discipled. Jesus is the one teaching we are only the vehicle. why do we say a little child is too young when the children are more advance into technology than us older. their minds can comprehend more than a “song” and they are able to read and understand Jesus deeper than what is being taught. the older ones have been poor examples of mentoring, not doing it, thus reliving the same old way over and over.
children of all ages do need to be challenged and discipled.
discipleship is very necessary and important for each to be established in knowing Jesus and why they chose HIM and why to continue following HIM every moment.

blessings to all, activating and speaking to all of the One who came, died, buried, and resurrected and very much alive today for them to be reconciled to the Only True God, Creator of the world.

    • DL Kennedy says:

Steve, that’s not something that will ever happen. You need to study the Bible, and you need to study the textual evidence for the reliability of the Bible. You also need to look at the archaeological, historical, and scientific facts that disprove the Book of Mormon.

Joseph Smith wrote the Book of Mormon, and it is full of archeological, anthropological, and historical errors — and this is a book that is supposed to be without any errors whatsoever. For one thing, Joseph Smith was unaware that the early native American peoples were part of the Stone Age.

One glaring error he made was in metallurgy. Metallurgy did not appear in the Americas until about the 9th century A.D.; however, the Book of Mormon describes the use of iron, steel, brass, copper, silver, and gold before the birth of Christ. These metals were said to be used for coins and weapons and buildings. LDS apologists claim that these items would not survive in the tropical climates found in much of the Americas. However, both gold and silver coins are very resistant to decay and they would certainly have survived. And nowhere in the art of this culture does it portray the existence of any metallurgical products or metallurgical activity until at least 1000 A.D.

Another problem in the Book of Mormon is the weapons of war that it lists. The Book of Mormon describes the presence of chariots in the new world. However, archaeologists have found no evidence of chariots. In fact, there’s no evidence of wheeled-vehicle usage in the period described in the Book of Mormon at all.

The Book of Mormon expressly states that the American people of the period used weapons of war that were made out of metal, but none of these weapons have ever been found. There’s no archeological evidence of these weapons, and one thing that we know is that, with the Bible, when archeologist go throughout the Holy Land, they find ample archaeological evidence in support of the Bible.

Another problem is the crops and the agriculture that Joseph Smith mentions in the Book of Mormon. He described the agriculture of the Americas as being similar to that found during Biblical times in the Middle East. However, most Native American cultures were hunter gathers, and the kinds of crops grown in the Americas did not utilize plow agriculture — which is required for crops such as wheat and barley — which are described in the Book of Mormon. Foods known to have been used in ancient America such as chocolate, lima beans, squash, potatoes, tomatoes, and peppers are not even included in the Book of Mormon at all.

The Book of Mormon also describes the following animals as having lived in the pre-Columbian Americas. The Book of Mormon mentions donkeys, cattle, oxen, horses, pigs and elephants. Although horses and mammoths and mastodons (related to the elephants) had existed in the distant past in the Americas, they had long disappeared by the supposed time of the Book of Mormon. Horses did not appear on the American continents until the Spanish brought them after the voyage of Columbus. None of these animals existed in north, central, or south America during the Book of Mormon times.

Another problem is the people groups. The Book of Mormon claims that the Native American population are descended from the Lamanites, and they say that they originated from ancient Israel 2600 years ago. As you know, this concept is central to the Book of Mormon… it’s critical. According to the Book of Mormon, a Jewish man named Lehi, living during the reign of King Zedekiah, was told to take his family and flee. Eventually, they traveled to the Americas. Lehi died after arriving in the Americas and his son Nephi took over leadership of the colony, but his brothers Laman and Lemuel rebelled and the group was split. After several centuries the Book of Mormon teaches that all of the Nephites were destroyed by the Lamanites, and that only the Lamanites remained and that they are the principal ancestors of all the Native American people groups.

But this concept, which is stated several times throughout the ‘standard works’ has been proven false. Modern molecular genetics have proven that Native Americans are descended from Siberian and Asian ancestors. There is no evidence of Hebrew ancestry. It’s never been found in living Native Americans, or in the remains of ancient Native Americans. However, other claims of Hebrew ancestry have been verified genetically in the African Lemba tribe — which left the Middle East during the same time frame found in the Book of Mormon account. so, Mormons can’t say that genetic evidence has been wiped out because there are peoples from the same time, and they have been genetically verified to be of Hebrew ancestry. If Native Americans were of Hebrew ancestry that could be genetically verified.

According to Deuteronomy 18:22 “when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.”

Mormonism has made dozens of predictions in many of their publications. In 1835, Joseph Smith predicted that the coming of the Lord would take place in 56 years, which would have been in 1891. That didn’t take place. On May 6th 1843, the Mormons predicted that unless the United States redressed the wrongs committed upon the saints in the state of Missouri the United States government would be overthrown in a few years. That didn’t happen. These predictions never came to pass at all… proving that the Mormon religion is false.

The Book of Mormon is not of God and Mormons need to carefully consider these things. One other thing to consider is Proverbs 30:6. “Do not add to His words Or He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar.” History, archeaology, anthropolgy, failed prophecies, and false doctrines have proven Joseph Smith to be a liar. 9. Fiseha D Letta says:

I never had anyone discipling me over the past two decades. There was a time I faced set back in my pilgrimage for lack of anyone to help me. If not for a direction even for silently listening and affirming ‘I understand what you are saying.’ You know it is not that bad at all judging from where I stand today. I grew up in small circles. Earlier it was my mom and sisters – but that they were looking up to me chart the way in the face of cultural and extended family pressuren mount. That was my high school years when I was not so sure myself. But I could not tell them thinking they would faint in their zeal. In my collage years the lone walk became so apparent. I needed a time to integrate my academic learning to what I hear and sea. My heart and my actions stood apart. I wanted to practice what i believed. Communism and Marxism reigned in the land. My parents faced more and more financial difficulties that led to disintegration of my family. I used to hate so called Bible proffessing Christians but also admiring their gut when they somehow stood up against persecution. Oh boy! What a up hill !!!! In a country where libraries are few and the only thing people seem to visibly read was the daily newspapers with over stories of the adventures of the comrades, I was loaded with myriads of questions for which I did not have the answere. Answering communism! Individual liberty! The judgement of God and eschatological sequences! Pentecostalism and life in the Spirit! Which Church of what denomination! I’m I going to have a girl friend and still abstain from sex! The lost is so big that my loneliness was in fact inevitable. Looking back after some 5 troublesome years of mostly gains and some significant losses I graduated from collage. My small circle still remained my mom and sisters.

New challenges emerged. Now I’m employed and earning a graduate level salary but I never learned how to manage myself around money. The most aren’t was that I’m now on the other side – the one expected to give and support others. Never learnt where to draw the line. The needs are so many. Do I rent a room for myself and move, what do I tell my brothers! If I continue with them the same way we lived do I have enouph to by a descent pair of shoes for myself or a simple gift for my mom for Easter! Do I now stop sharing cloths with my brothers (four of us all a year apart). Do I still roam around till I find a good church? I thought I coun attend the the International Church – now that my English is better – at least for listening. For couple of years the band of bond of brotherhood became stronger. We lived together. We ate at the same restaurant. The group grow larger. High school aquintances, from collage and now new ones from workplace. Noteworthy is our Saturday afternoon ritual. We all meet at place called Tea Room, in Piazza (Addis Ababa). Starts around noon and people come and go. Drinking this and that. By late afternoon when we start to dispers ther will be at least ten of us. This had to stop. Nothing in the commotion helped me answer my questions. To their credit they respected me a lot even though I’m among the youngest and the least influential. I withdrew myself but did not maintain as much touch with my mom ad sister. I became so regular in the churches attending here and there. I picked the teachings and grumbled why they don’t practice what they say. For lack of books and guides at least my Bible reading improved.

Soon I made friends here and there. Started hanging out with them. Invitation to Bible study group. This is now a life changer where I was able to ask most of my questions. When there is no answere we all say let keep on searching for an answer. It was la new found life. I did not realism that I’m now becoming a local church member, Bible study group leader and a youth Minister of a kind. Well there was changes in the land. The old Communist is gone a new type of government is in power with more talk of democracy and political participation. Cultural waves from globalization, poverty trade international aid … On and on the list goes. I joined Bible school and spent some beautiful time. Most of all I got some structure to my search to truth and scripture reading. I checked the historical and theological debates, some of which were helpful others not so much. Responsibility at work and in the Church, and what about me. … Smile by God’s grace I did well. I’m married with 3 kids. Lots of question still. No hurry! I own an iPad and so I can google them all. But still no one to disciple me. Did I help some people in my life? My Lord knows my heart! I did not do as much as I should! So I shall!

Instead of discipling I use the term mentoring. I answered no to the question, but I do have mentors in my life. These 3 women truly love Jesus Christ. They have a solid walk with the Lord, they are Biblically sound and have a loving spirit about them. Mentorship is something I truly believe in. Paul desired that the older women teach the younger. I personally believe that we older women in the church have strayed far from teaching the younger women. The younger women as well do not seeek out a godly woman in which to learn from. There has to be mutual ground concerning this issue; but this is a issue I don’t see being practiced very much. May we older and younger women find common ground is a prayer of mine.

No. I have always found it hard to find someone I connect with. I work with our Senior High and College kids which I find rich and rewarding but don’t seem to be able to allow myself someone to do the same for me. I’m a 48 year old male who gave his life to Christ at age 8, consider myself a Christian Apologist with a deep love of sharing, teaching and studying the Word but have some kind of block to being discipled anyone have an idea why and how I can overcome it.

I think some men are afraid of this discipling or mentoring. But as a woman I find it to be much needed for men as well as women. Perhaps you could find a small group 3 or 4 perhaps of godley men that you could talk to about this and perhaps become accountability partners with. I knew of a group of men that helped hold each other accountable for issues in their lives such as lusting, porn, drunkness,…etc. They had a man or men they could go to and knew they could reply on these men to be praying for them and that would hold them accountable. Perhaps you could talk with your pastor about this and see what he thinks. You might just find that there are other men in your church who desire what you are desiring and just don’t have the desire to start a group up themselves.

Yes, a Christian brother is helping me with concerns I have about Hebrews 6 and 10. I’ve been struggling with those passages recently, and have wondered if I’ve lost my salvation. He, and commentaries he has pointed out, (and some that I have found from research), are helping me come to grips with those difficult passages. I believe that’s what you mean by discipling… though I’m not sure.

Dear Brother in Christ…just as it was the grace of God that saved you, it is this same grace that keeps us saved. God never disowns His Children. You cannot be saved and then lose it. God saves, & God keeps. Nothing can remove us from the safely of His hands. He has promised to never leave us or forsake us. He may discipline when we disobey, but He never lets us go. Even Peter denied Jesus Christ 3 times and yet he was still saved. There are no examples of anyone in scripture that were truly saved and then lost their salvation. That is something to rejoice about!
