What can the followers of Hindu gurus do to inherit eternal life?
Hinduism and Christianity offer people different kinds of salvation. What Hinduism offers men and women is, in the end, complete annihilation—nonexistence. But Jesus Christ offers men and women eternal life—the privilege of knowing and loving a personal God (who loves them) for all eternity.
The Bible teaches us that our sins have separated us from God: “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Jesus Christ came to die for our sins so that He might freely offer us the gift of eternal life: “The wages sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23). Thus “he [Jesus Christ] is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world” (1 John 2:2).
Does the guru or spiritual master you now follow truly satisfy your spiritual hunger? Does he claim that he can forgive your sins and give you eternal life? Jesus claims that He can and will. But you must personally receive Him as your Savior. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). “To all who received him, those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12).
Anyone who desires can receive Christ as his or her personal Savior by saying the following prayer.
Dear God: I confess before You that I am a sinner and that I cannot earn my own way to heaven. I thank You that You sent Christ to die on the cross for my sins. I now believe that Jesus Christ is the only true Son of God, the only incarnation of God to appear. I now receive Him as my personal Lord and Savior. I ask Christ to come into my life and to make my life pleasing to Him. I also turn from the false path and occult practices that I have accepted. If these practices have led me to be influenced by evil spirits, I ask You to remove them from me. I trust You to protect me from the power of Satan and to glorify Your name in my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
